Gabb Wireless provides kid safe smartphones and watches to nearly 300,000 children in the US. The company’s mission is to keep kids connected to their families, while also protecting them from harmful content and screen-time addiction. Gabb’s custom Android operating system allows kids to make and receive phone calls and text messages, but doesn’t allow access to the internet or social media.
As protection is a top priority at Gabb, they built a solution to filter out unwanted SMS messages from reaching Gabb devices, but they could not stop unwanted calls. The company needed a solution beyond “parental controls” that could not be overridden by tech-savvy kids. Gabb turned to Hiya Protect for spam and fraud call protection across all Gabb Wireless devices.
“We’re committed to providing safe tech to kids so they can stay connected to what matters most. That means protecting our users from spam and fraud calls is a top priority at Gabb Wireless,” said Diane Acevedo, senior vice president of operations and customer experience at Gabb Wireless. “We needed a solution to seamlessly detect and block all spam and fraud calls across all Gabb devices - and when we turned on Hiya Protect the results were phenomenal. We’ve been able to block spam and fraud calls with 97.4% accuracy.”
Gabb partnered with Hiya to integrate Hiya Protect across Gabb phones. The call security service is fully configurable to allow carriers to determine key settings for call labeling and blocking. Hiya Protect enabled Gabb to detect and block all spam and fraud calls entirely. Gabb’s solution also prevents blocked calls from appearing on call logs to eliminate the possibility of child subscribers calling spam and fraud numbers back.
“Fraudsters don’t discriminate in their targeting, and the youth and elderly are often the most susceptible to their schemes. Call security services provide carriers with the first line of defense for their customers,” said Hiya President Kush Parikh. “We are proud to partner with Gabb Wireless to protect kids and family customers from mobile phone spam and fraud.”
Spam and fraud continues to be a growing problem, as Hiya’s latest report shows that 32% of all non-contact calls in the United States are reported as spam. Powered by AI technology that allows carriers to recognize and stop new and emerging scams in real-time, Hiya Protect satisfies regulatory requirements and exceeds carrier demands for subscriber voice call protection.
