In 2015, Hiya founder Alex Algard saw the increasing need for innovation in the voice channel and began building the first caller ID and spam blocking apps for mobile while at Whitepages.
In early 2016, Hiya spun out of Whitepages and brought its technology to market through Samsung Smart Call, the first-ever network-based spam solution with AT&T, and the Hiya consumer app.
Since its inception, Hiya has launched Hiya Connect and Hiya Protect, continues to power services for the world’s largest mobile providers, and has grown to serve more than 130 million businesses and customers worldwide.

Alex is the CEO of Hiya, where he's especially focused on product vision and corporate strategy. Alex is a long-time visionary for trust and identity in mobile calls, having launched the first caller ID and spam blocking apps for mobile. Alex is also the founder and chairman of both Ekata and Whitepages, where he serves in advisory roles. Kush drives the Go-to-Market aspect of the Hiya business including distribution, sales, marketing and business operations. He has over 15 years of experience in the mobile industry including handset OEMs, location based services and mobile payments. Among Kush’s many startup roles, he was recently the CEO of PayByPhone, Inc. one of the largest mobile payment companies in the world which he sold to Volkswagen Financial Services. Kush holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Penn State and an MBA from Duke University.Read more
As Chief Technology Officer, Marcelo leads Hiya's long-term technology vision and oversees the engineering, product, operations, and partner certification teams. Before Hiya, Marcelo was the CTO & founder of two healthcare businesses, one in the UK (DoctorLink) and one in the US (EveryMove). He was a Head of Product at Pioneer Square Labs (a Startup Studio) and was an entrepreneur for the 15 years prior. Marcelo started his career with Microsoft where he worked for seven years, mostly on the Bing search engine. Marcelo has a Computer Science degree from Universidade Estadual Paulista in Brazil.Read more
With a deep background as an intellectual property and technology attorney, Hillery leads Hiya’s legal team as General Counsel and supports the company’s transactional needs. She brings more than two decades of experience as an attorney for publicly traded companies, including Microsoft, Amazon, Intel and Paramount Pictures, as well as startups, such as Zipwhip and Glympse. Hillery also served as an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law where she taught privacy and technology law. Hillery earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington and a JD from Willamette University School of Law.Read more
As Senior Vice President of Global Business Development, Chris Reiner leads Hiya’s ongoing growth and distribution strategy, with a specific focus on both Mobile Carrier and OEM partnerships. Chris started his mobile career with start-up Voice Signal Technologies, which was acquired by Nuance Communications. Following Nuance, Chris worked at Carrier IQ, a startup focussed on improving the mobile user experience. Most recently, he returned to Nuance where he led the Global Sales and Go-to-Market organization for the Mobile Division. Chris received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Vermont and an MBA from Babson College.Read more
John is a seasoned marketing and product leader with over 20 years experience across both early stage SaaS companies and high growth software businesses within larger organizations. As SVP of Marketing at Hiya he leads the company’s marketing team which includes product marketing, demand generation, corporate marketing and company communications. Prior to joining Hiya, John served 10 years in various marketing, product marketing and product leadership roles at Apptio where he helped grow the company from Series B onto a successful IPO and through the acquisition by Vista Equity Partners for $2B. Previously, he held leadership positions at Microsoft, Mercury (Acquired by HP), Accenture as well as several early-stage ventures in San Francisco. John earned his BS degree in Finance from the University of San Francisco.Read more
Brian is the SVP of Connect Partnerships where he enables go-to-market channels and partners in the Call Center as a Service (CCaaS) space while working closely with the Connect sales, product, and marketing teams. Prior to joining Hiya, Brian was the co-founder and CEO of Five9, VP at NiceInContact, and also held leadership roles at Spoken, Avaya and most recently served as the Head of Global Revenue in the Amazon Connect business unit. Brian holds a B.A. in marketing and organizational psychology from McGill University.Read more
As Vice President of Finance, Rich leads the finance team at Hiya. With nearly 30 years experience, Rich has spent most of that time working for high-growth technology companies, leading them through multiple IPO’s, various financings and nearly 20 acquisitions. Starting his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Rich moved to Concur Technologies where he served as Controller, followed by Chief Accounting Officer for Coinstar, Inc. For the past 9 years, he has held various consulting roles in both large and small companies. Rich received his B.A. at Gonzaga University in Business Administration & Accounting with a minor in Spanish.Read more
As Vice President of Strategic Accounts, Pinar is responsible for Hiya’s growth strategy and activities in the region. Pinar has more than 20 years of sales and technology experience in the telecom and IT industry, most recently overseeing Ericsson's Western and Central European partnership, alliances and digital consulting business from London. Early in her career she worked at Qualcomm and was the key Account Manager for Verizon at Cequint/TNS before joining Ericsson. Pinar has an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.Read more
As Vice President of Mobile Apps, Matthew leads the team that designs and builds a better phone experience for Hiya’s millions of users. Prior to Hiya, Matthew was Director of Design for Whitepages, where he led user research and design for the global expansion of their caller ID products. He has over a decade of design leadership experience with a focus on mobile and local search startups, including Urbanspoon, one of the original chart-topping apps for iOS. Matthew holds a B.A. in Media Studies from The Evergreen State College.Read more
With many years of expertise in the telecom industry, Won leads Hiya’s ongoing growth and distribution strategy, with a specific focus on Mobile OEM partnerships. Prior to Hiya, Won was Head of Mobile Partnerships at LinkedIn where he grew the mobile app user base through OEM and carrier partnerships. Before LinkedIn, Won worked at Evernote where he helped distribute the company’s mobile app to tens of millions of smartphones through partnerships with companies like Samsung, LG and NTT. Won also worked in Samsung’s Mobile Division for over 10 years in Korea and the Bay Area, where he led numerous partnerships with US companies like Swype, Dropbox and Flipboard. Won holds a B.A. in Media Studies from University of London and a Masters in Marketing from the University of Manchester.Read more
As Vice President of Sales, Chris leads up the team who helps businesses around the globe differentiate their phone calls and drive higher engagement. Chris began his career at a mobile startup, and has since become a journeyman in data analytics, the contact center space and consumer behavior. Before Hiya, Chris was Global Director of Strategic Partnerships at Whitepages and prior to that, he worked for the University of Washington in various capacities for nearly 14 years. As Managing Director of Hiya Hungary, Daniel is in charge of building out and running the Central European engineering operations in Hungary. Daniel leads the financial, legal, operational and HR functions, and helps define Hiya’s global strategy. Prior to Hiya, Daniel worked at Whitepages where he also lead the regional engineering operations in Hungary. He has over 20 years of finance and management experience working in different industries and companies that include Deloitte & Touche and Silicon Valley Bank. Rachel leads talent and people operations at Hiya, overseeing recruiting, employee experience, internal training programs, and compensation and benefits. She brings over 15 years of experience as an HR leader, primarily with tech startups in Seattle. Rachel most recently was VP of talent at Textio where she led the recruiting team, talent branding strategies, and internal talent programs. She has also held HR roles at Chef Software, Fitch and Tippr, and studied English literature at the University of Washington.Read more
Mike brings twenty years of experience focused on mobile networks and technology to Hiya. Today, Mike serves as CEO of Xealth, a digital prescribing and analytics platform integrated into healthcare electronic medical records (EMRs). Prior to Xealth, he was CEO of Swype, an innovative touchscreen keyboard installed on over one billion smartphones and tablets, which he sold to Nuance in 2011. He also co-founded Zivo, the largest web development company in Australia and New Zealand, and was co-founder and head of product for Boost Mobile both in the US and Australia. He has also held several different product roles at Microsoft. Mike received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and International Business from William & Mary college in Virginia.Read more
Geoff brings in-depth knowledge and years of expertise in the tech and startup community to Hiya. He currently serves as both a Managing Director at Pioneer Labs, a technology startup studio, and a Venture Partner with Voyager Capital, a venture capital firm. He is a 16-year angel investor in over 150 startups (80 in the Pacific Northwest) and is currently an advisor to several entrepreneurship programs and serves on the board of ten companies, including Big Fish Games and LiquidPlanner. Geoff received a B.A. in English at the University of Notre Dame, a MSIA in Business Administration from Carnegie Mellon University at the Tepper School of Business and a JD of Law at the University of Michigan Law School.Read more
Lars brings strategic and operational know-how for mobile to Hiya. Lars joined Balderton Capital as a General Partner in 2015, after roles at three of Silicon Valley's best known tech companies – Uber, WhatsApp and Dropbox. At Uber Inc. in California, where he was Vice President Mobile, he fueled the company’s rapid growth through strategic alliances with global telcos, including Verizon and Carlos Slim's América Movil group. As Head of Mobile at Dropbox, where he was one of the firm's first 25 employees, his business development deals with Samsung and others helped the file-sharing company reach its first 100M users. At WhatsApp, Lars was advisor to the business team on non-organic growth and distribution, until the messaging app's acquisition by Facebook in 2014. Lars holds an MBA from London Business School, an MSc from Oxford University and a BSc from Kings College London.Read more
